If the odor persists, move yourself to a safe distance and contact your local fire department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"534\" src=\"https:\/\/www.appliancemaster.com\/amnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/AprilCookingTips-1024x534.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3231\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.appliancemaster.com\/amnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/AprilCookingTips-1024x534.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.appliancemaster.com\/amnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/AprilCookingTips-300x156.png 300w, https:\/\/www.appliancemaster.com\/amnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/AprilCookingTips-768x401.png 768w, https:\/\/www.appliancemaster.com\/amnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/AprilCookingTips-370x193.png 370w, https:\/\/www.appliancemaster.com\/amnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/AprilCookingTips-270x141.png 270w, https:\/\/www.appliancemaster.com\/amnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/AprilCookingTips-570x297.png 570w, https:\/\/www.appliancemaster.com\/amnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/AprilCookingTips-740x386.png 740w, https:\/\/www.appliancemaster.com\/amnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/AprilCookingTips.png 1160w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tip 1.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Preheat the grill with the lid closed for 10-15 minutes &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Gets the grill to the proper temperature before cooking.<\/li><li>Loosens any stuck-on food making it easy to remove with a wire brush.<\/li><li>Keeps food from sticking to the grates.<\/li><li>Allows for proper searing.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tip 2.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Keep the grill clean &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>While the grates are hot, use a wire brush (best) or balled up aluminum foil and tongs to remove stuck on bits.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tip 3.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Monitor grilling time and temperature &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Use a food thermometer to check internal temperature and\/or a timer to prevent under or over cooking.<\/li><li>In colder climates and higher altitudes, cooking times will be longer.<\/li><li>If there&#8217;s a strong wind, it will lower a gas grill&#8217;s temperature, but raise a charcoal grill&#8217;s temperature.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tip 4.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Know your heat &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Direct heat, with the flames directly under the food, is best for smaller, tender pieces of food that cook in under 20 minutes.<\/li><li>Indirect or radiant heat, with the flames around the food, is ideal for larger, tougher cuts of meat that take longer than 20 minutes to cook.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tip 5.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Maintain Temperature &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Gas grills have individual control knobs to easily control and adjust heat.<\/li><li>In a charcoal grill, use the dampers and a closed lid to control the airflow to maintain your temperature and limit flare ups.<\/li><li>If you have a flare up, move the food over indirect heat until the flare up dies out, then move it back.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tip 6.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Resist the urge to flip &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Keeping one side down on the grill longer makes for better searing and caramelization.<\/li><li>Try to flip only once.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Watch our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.appliancemaster.com\/amnews\/cooking-ribs-with-a-three-two-one-recipe\/\">Appliance Master Live Episode<\/a> where Bill and Tom show you how to smoke ribs (without a smoker) using Tom&#8217;s 3-2-1 Ribs Recipe.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In Part 2 of this month&#8217;s newsletter, we will share some safety and cooking tips to get the most out of your outdoor grill this season &#8230;.
