Outdoor kitchens have special cleaning and maintenance needs. Heavy use and exposure to the elements can cause more wear and tear than experienced by indoor appliances.
An outdoor kitchen usually has a grill, sink, storage, and counter space. It may also have a refrigerator, an island, a gas cooktop, a pizza oven, additional dining space, a kegerator, or a bar. If the kitchen is tucked against the house or covered, it may also have a vent hood.
Each appliance has special requirements in addition to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Cleaning and Maintenance:
1. Outdoor Rated:
Make sure the appliances are rated for outdoor use. Your appliance retailer can help you find the right ones. Appliance Master has experience with brands like DCS, Lynx, Marvel, and Summit. We are now authorized to service Kalamazoo grills too!
2. Propane (LP) Tank:
If your grill has a small propane (LP) tank, consider getting a spare. You don’t want to run out of gas before the meal is ready.
3. The Lines:
Check the gas and water lines frequently. Regular maintenance will reduce the likelihood of one or more of these failing while you’re entertaining.
Refrigerators, wine coolers, and kegerators should be installed under the counter to protect them from the elements.
Stainless steel counters are easy to keep clean. Granite will require resealing. Tile, stone, or concrete should be kept clean as directed by the manufacturer.
Debris like leaves, pine needles, and spider webs should be removed regularly to keep vents and drains clear. Even after only a week, you could find critters setting up residence!
Using a cover will extend the life of your kitchen, especially during inclement weather.
Ash from a pizza oven should be removed and put in an ash bin until completely cooled before disposal.
